so as to assist you in understanding some of the terms, concepts and
methods used. Where possible, we have incorporated links

NOTE: In expediting
this Website, we have incorporated this page; yet, it is to be

Waterproofing ... is the installation process of
applying a vertical barrier of material(s), ranging from a roller
grade liquid urethane sealant to sheet materials (much like
vertical roofing); or, both ... to a subgrade wall (so as to prevent
the lateral entry of water); incorporated with a drainage
relief & conveyance system at the base of the wall so as to
provide a means for the accumulated water at the base to drain away
from the wall; thus, protecting the interior space from water
impact. Waterproofing is required when the interior space it
to be occupied; or, fitted with wall covering materials that would
deteriorate if subjected to water.
Dampproofing ... is similar in concept with
waterproofing, yet it addresses non-occupied spaces (such as a
crawlspace or a mechanical basement); and is only required by Code
when the interior soils elevation is greater than 12" deeper than
the exterior grade. Typically, an application of petroleum
based material is applied to the exterior wall; and a drainage
relief & conveyance system is installed along the
base.
Foundation footing
... Is an earthen trench excavated with the intended
design and configuration to satisfy the foundation perimeter
dimensions and requirements of a residence or building. Within
the void of this trench, a monolith of cement will be poured to make
the footing.
